Most techniques for teaching medical procedures are not interactive:
medical professionals can read about procedures in a medical atlas,
watch a video, or watch another doctor perform the procedure. Sometimes
a physical simulator or an animal is available for actual practice, while complementary to
SimPraxis™, these options are not always available.
Our cognitive simulator engine, SimPraxis, can be installed from a DVD onto a standard computer, and requires only a mouse for interaction. It provides a realistic, interactive experience for learning and rehearsing the steps of a medical procedure. Users feel as though they are performing the procedure themselves by working with real images and putting proper tools to use. Users get instant feedback, providing an almost game-like experience.
SimPraxis is a platform that can be applied to any medical procedure comprised of steps that can be presented visually.
We have two modules for sale at this time: the Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy Trainer (also available with for CME credit) and the Laparoscopic Nissen Fundoplication Trainer. Later in 2010 we will also be offering a Laparoscopic Hysterectomy Trainer in conjunction with the Surgical Science LapSim® platform.
